Who qualifies for community verification?

Community verification is for groups that create free, open events for their local or interest-based community. If your events are free to attend and open to the public, you're likely a good fit.

Local meetups

Monthly or weekly gatherings built around a shared interest: tech, design, writing, gaming, crafts, or anything else. Free to attend, open to newcomers, and organized by volunteers.

Unconferences and BarCamps

Participant-driven events where the schedule is built on the day. Free or donation-based, focused on knowledge sharing over commercial interests.

Student and academic groups

University clubs, student-run conferences, hackathons, and study groups. If the event is free and run by students or educators, it qualifies.

Open-source and advocacy groups

Community groups organizing around open-source projects, civic engagement, mutual aid, or social causes. Free events that bring people together around a shared purpose.

Community verification is reviewed by a real person, we want to hear your story. We're looking for genuine community groups, not companies running promotional events under a community banner. If you charge for tickets, the standard pricing tiers apply, and they're still affordable.

How to get started.

1

Create a free account and event series

Sign up and create an event series for your community. Add your group's name, description, and logo. This is the home for all your events.

2

Apply for community verification

From your event series settings, request community verification. Tell us about your group, your events, and what makes your community special. We review every application personally, we can't wait to hear your story.

3

Get verified and publish for free

Once approved, the platform fee is waived for all events in your group. Set up your event, add tickets, build the schedule, and publish. No payment required.

4

Go live, then do it again

Check in attendees, manage the live schedule, and review your analytics. When it's time for the next one, your group is ready. Add a new event and publish again.

Common questions.

Can I charge for tickets and still get community verification?

Community verification is for free events. If you want to charge for tickets, the standard pricing tiers apply: $10 for up to 50 attendees or $250 for up to 200 attendees. These are one-time fees per event, not subscriptions or per-ticket charges.

How long does the verification review take?

Most applications are reviewed within a few business days by a real person who cares about community. We'll email you once a decision is made. If we need more information, we'll reach out directly, we want to help you get verified.

Can I accept sponsor payments as a verified community group?

Yes. Community verification waives the platform fee; it doesn't restrict what you can do. If your sponsors want to pay through the platform, you can connect Stripe and accept payments just like any other organizer.

What happens if my group stops qualifying?

If your events shift from free community gatherings to paid commercial events, we'll reach out and work with you on the right pricing tier. We value community and will always reach out before making any changes to your verification status.
